WORLDWIDE – For 2,920 consecutive days, cheerUPDATES has served the cheerleading community. cheerUPDATES was an accidental creation, originally posting the happenings of The MAJORS in 2012, for a then audience of fifty friends. Today, cheerUPDATES has morphed into an around the clock vast network of real-time news for the cheerleading industry. Celebrating 8 Years, we’re sharing 8 little or unknown facts about cheerleading’s largest and most influential media group.
8 Little Known Facts | cheerUPDATES at 8 (Years)
1. There was never a plan.
cheerUPDATES in the beginning was not the highly planned organization that it is today, much to many people’s surprise. Today, we spend days, weeks, and months planning meticulously to ensure that we are always prepared. Planning for the coverage features at The Cheerleading Worlds begins in January to ensure we are ready to elevate the user experience year after year.
2. Staggering Growth
In the beginning, we had no idea what cheerUPDATES would or could become. In the first three-months cheerUPDATES amassed 14,000 followers on Twitter. The three day period of The Cheerleading Worlds in 2012, saw the platform gain an additional 11,000 followers.
3. Instagram
I was initially apprehensive of adding Instagram to our platforms offered, not sure if we would have enough visual content to fill the timeline. But in April of 2014, during the weekend of The Cheerleading World Championship we launched Instagram, and saw 30,000+ followers on the weekend in our first two days.
4. People Love Cheerleading
Yes, we use several analytics programs to measure our reach, and effectiveness of our content. Cheerleading Fans have continued to be captivated by their entire world (cheerleading) being centrally located in one place (cheerUPDATES). Our average weekly Impressions range from 2-3.8 million. The biggest in-season weekend for fans on social media is NCA All Star Nationals, yielding 150-190 million impressions over the three-day weekend.

5. The World is Watching
While the anxiety to get it right runs high year-round, there is nothing like anxiety to deliver on the weekend of The Cheerleading World Championship. Our biggest weekend of the year sees the addition of thousands of new followers across all platforms, while yielding around 300 million impressions during the three-day weekend.
6. Rarely Unreachable
A big part of the success of cheerUPDATES has been the ability to maintain and develop professional and friendly relationships with many people. Being available almost always, has aided in making cheerUPDATES the go-to network for assistance. It is very rare that we are not reachable via phone, email, or on any of our platforms.
7. Trust
We always know more than we say. Not to be withholding, but cheerUPDATES reputation for trust is one that we guard fiercely. We are never willing to betray that trust, because we understand the important role that it has played in our success. Friends joke “that cheerUPDATES is a vault of the happenings in cheerleading.”
8. The Future
We will never be complacent in the job that we do for cheerleading, continually evolving our offering to ensure that cheerUPDATES remains true to our original roots, while remaining cutting edge in the coverage of all star cheerleading. Furthermore, will continue to seek and invent new ways to celebrate this sport (like the widely popular YOU JUST HIT graphics we see every weekend now!)
