FREEHOLD, NJ – The World Cup All Stars located in Freehold, NJ has been home to many of New Jersey’s most elite competitive cheerleaders since 1994. It’s a family affair at World Cup All Stars, the gym is led by Elaine Pascale, Joelle Antico, and Janee Cobern. Since its inception World Cup All Stars has been setting trends with their strong progressive skills and themes which have defined many of the most iconic moments in cheerleading.
This years theme, revealed in the late summer of 2017, “CIRCUS”. In visiting with Pascale and Antico at their central New Jersey facility we learned this was a re-vamp from one of the pairs most successful and fun seasons as a Pop Warner team. Unbeknownst to World Cup and the 5 time World Champion Shooting Stars this years team theme would parallel seamlessly with the box office hit “The Greatest Showman”.
The team has found success, over the course of the 2017/2018 season winning: The MAJORS in Indianapolis, IN and The UCA International Championship in Orlando, FL. The team has perfected, and evolved this season’s routine to encompass the whole package. The Shooting Stars intend to not only perform their routine, but make it a complete immersive for the fans. In the final weeks of the 2017/2018 season, the team has added props which showcase various beloved circus components. Taking center stage, highlighted twice in the routine – a stunning ringleader jacket.
The jacket we learned comes with famous, and pop-culture history. Reality TV fans would recognize as the same jacket, yes worn by reality TV Star Melissa Gorga of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Antico speaking of how the costume found its way to the performance floor, says “a parent saw it, knew we had to have it, and tracked it down.”
The Shooting Stars are attending their 13th consecutive World Championship event, where they look to repeat with a back-to-back win in the coveted Large Senior All Girl 5 division. Currently the team has won the most World Titles in the division. A win in 2018, would extend their lead. The Shooting Stars are joined by historical powerhouses Cheer Extreme, Cheer Athletics, Maryland Twisters, The Stingray Allstars, Pittsburgh Superstars, The California Allstars, ACE All Stars, ICE All Stars, and Cheer Savannah in what promises to be one of the most watched divisions at Worlds.
